January Gathering Guide for Savor Time & Tradition Subscribers

Winter just feels like soup season, doesn't it? When it's cold and gray outside, a steaming hot bowl of soup just seems to be the perfect meal to nourish both body and soul.

For many, the long darker days of the winter months can also be tough on our emotions and attitudes. With Valentines Day on February 14th and Random Acts of Kindness Day on February 17th, the next few weeks are the perfect time to make someone's day a little bit brighter.

With these things in mind, your January box, Love & Kindness, is a collection of products designed to inspire you to show some love, kindness, and encouragement to those around you.

Keep Gathering with Your People

Keep it Simple:

I know after all the holiday rush of the past couple of months, we can be tired and tapped out, but one of the best things we can do for ourselves is take time to enjoy the company of our favorite people. I encourage you to be intentional about bringing your own family or circle of friends together over the next couple of weeks. Keep it simple with some soup and crackers, a store bought dessert, music, good conversation, and maybe a board game or two.

Go Big:

You could also choose to go all out and invite your friends over for a Soup-er Bowl Party (a Soup Bar Party if you aren't into football)! Soup is a great alternative to the usual game day fare but still full of flavor and, it doesn't have to be complicated or time consuming.

To host a soup bar party and keep things simple, follow these tips:

  • Plan to have 3 or 4 different varieties of soups
  • Use a convenient packaged soup mix like the ones in your Savor Time & Tradition Box, buy prepared soups from the grocery, or invite 2 or 3 of your guests to help out by bringing their favorite soup.
  • To make serving the soups easier, pour smooth soups from a pitcher
  • Serving soups in mugs or cups with handles makes it easier for folks to sip or scoop with a spoon without dripping.
  • Grilled or Toasted Cheese sandwiches, cut in half pair well with most soups and are easy to prepare
  • Assemble various add-ins on a cutting board or in small bowls. Crackers, Croutons, Pine Nuts, Crumbled Bacon and herbs like Basil or Parsley will add both flavor and texture.
  • Round things out with a veggie tray and a simple dessert.

Offer Kindness to Others

I created your Kindness Confetti Cards to make it easy to encourage friends and family, but also to bring a smile to anyone in your path who may need a little extra kindness. Keep a few of your cards in your purse or car so you are always ready to leave them for others to find. You could leave one for your overworked and underpaid server after a restaurant meal, easily hand a word of encouragement to that mom with the kid who is having a meltdown in the grocery store checkout lane (we've all been her at some point), or randomly leave one on a waiting room table in the doctor's office. Get creative and know this simple act could be the one little thing that brings a moment of joy to someone's day!
